Michelle Nemeth

Many of my clients come to therapy to find “the why.” They want to know why they engage in certain behaviors, hold specific beliefs, or follow the same relationship patterns over and over again. Although there may not be a single “why,” exploring our past experiences and relationships can help us understand our present-day behaviors, beliefs, and patterns. Oftentimes, this exploration and understanding becomes a powerful catalyst for change.

I specialize in supporting folks with eating disorders and disordered eating. I also firmly believe that eating disorders aren’t inherently bad – in fact, they’re truly magnificent coping strategies. That being said, they are simply unsustainable. In our work together, I want to honor how your eating disorder has kept you safe while we gently begin to heal the hurt parts it has helped you protect. Oftentimes, these hurt parts are tied to things like trauma, abuse, and issues within your family of origin. As we acknowledge these hurt parts, we can start to rebuild trust and confidence in you, your capabilities, and your body while also learning ways to keep you safe without your eating disorder.

What can you expect from me as your therapist? Compassion. Curiosity. Humor. Tissues when needed. In session, I use a combination of talk therapy and EMDR, and value the connection between our minds and bodies. I believe that understanding the impact of your past allows you to make lasting changes in the present. I may gently challenge you at times, but I will never push you beyond what you’re comfortable with. I’m here for you just as you are, in this moment.

My ultimate goal is for you to walk away from our sessions with compassion for your past self, a better understanding of your present self, and hope for your future self. I am so glad you’re here, and I look forward to our time together.
